For PARENTS
Airway Myo Phase One Parent Guide
- The Law & Licensing: In the United States, dental licensure is state-specific. A doctor must be actively licensed in your exact state to legally diagnose or give clinical advice. We are not licensed in all states- that would be EXHAUSTING and Cost-Prohibitive .
- Our Business Choice: To keep our operations safe and focused, we choose to work exclusively as educators for healthcare providers. We do not maintain a consumer-facing practice.
- The Power of Local Care: There are thousands of brilliant, airway-focused local dentists out there! This guide is designed to help you find them so your child can get the legal, in-person, or formal telehealth care they deserve.
- Avoid Child Burnout: Dragging a toddler or young child to dozens of corporate dental offices for screening appointments can be confusing, stressful, and even traumatic for them.
- Screen Virtually First: Use the phone scripts provided above to ask for virtual consultations or preliminary telehealth chats.
- The Goal: Do your filtering from home. Only schedule an in-person visit once you have found a doctor who explicitly supports early growth guidance.
- Minimize Radiation: It is highly unlikely and rarely necessary for a doctor to take a massive, full set of x-rays or heavy records on a cooperative 2-to-6-year-old just for an initial screening. Often, a skilled doctor just needs a quick physical or visual “peek” at their mouth, breathing, and bite.
- Keep Your Data: If you do have recent 3D X-rays (CBCT) or standard dental films from a previous office, request them! Keep a digital copy on a flash drive, or ask for a printed 2D version of the scan. You can securely share these during your virtual consultations to avoid repeating x-rays.
- The Insurance Conflict: Standard dental insurance models are built around traditional “wait-and-see” guidelines. They typically do not have codes or coverage for early-childhood airway screening or myofunctional monitoring for toddlers.
- Expect Consultation Fees: While many traditional dental consultations are advertised as free, the top-tier, proactive airway specialists who operate outside of restrictive corporate frameworks often charge a dedicated fee for their time and expertise.
- Be Prepared for Cash/Card: View this early screening as a specialized wellness visit. Be prepared that finding the right care for this age group will likely be a cash or out-of-pocket situation rather than an insurance-covered event.
A Note from Dr. Amanda on this B2B position, and WHEN she’ll start seeing patients again:
“This is my 10th year at StraightSmile Solutions- it served it’s purpose, allowing me to still be in the orthodontic space, but raise my kids. I am grateful for this flexibility, but as I prepare to be an “empty nester” in 2027, I am strongly considering a FFS Orthodontic Start up, that supports all kids and their sensory needs. We would have an ENT, Pediatrician, OMT AND Pediatric Dentist ON SITE as well as sleep testing, to make sure all kids’ can get access to dental, airway AND orthodontic care at the right time. I am looking for doctors and probably a non profit or sadly maybe even PE to partner with. If you are a professional in this space and you want to be part of this project, please reach out.”
