Why Americans Need to Try the Inman Aligner®

My StraightSmile Solutions® clients are always asking me which products I recommend. Since our global expansion, the Inman Aligner® has been a commonly discussed appliance. I pride myself in being proficient and aware of every orthodontic system and technique on the market, but, admittedly, I was totally unaware of this one. Americans often think that if their colleagues don’t use something, it mustn’t be worth trying–correct? Wrong.

Inman Aligner® is a well-kept European secret for good orthodontic outcomes. Undoubtedly, like any product, it has its limitations. What drew me to the aligner was the potential applications for General Dentists and Pediatric Dentists. I contacted the Inman Aligner team a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised at how approachable they were to me when I asked them if I could review their product through my portal, StraightSmile Solutions®. I warned them that my reviews are candid and aren’t always roses and sunshine, and that I would write what I examined–the way that my readers expect me to review any product or technique.

What I love about this aligner system is that it’s not only removable, but it can also only be required to be worn 16-20 hours. For many working professionals, this is the most that they can tolerate any appliance like this. I also like that, in most circumstances, there are no attachments or required bonding to the dentition; once removed, the teeth are unblemished. Lastly, I think it would be great to be used in a mixed-dentition scenario since it’s adjustable, accommodating erupting teeth and it doesn’t cover the occlusion. When Invisalign®, Clear Correct®, or any aligner cases aren’t finished properly with seating elastics to fully interdigitate the teeth, a lateral open-bite often occurs. This will not occur with the Inman Aligner®.

I signed-up for the online course and took the course like any other student would. It’s initially paced, but it rapidly accelerates in both content and application. My favorite part about the course was the section on IPR. I got a little confused because they called disk-IPR, “PPR” and in the US, we call this ARS. Some of the terminology and phrasing was British, but it is easily adaptable. I have spent a lot of time in the UK, but, at times, I have had difficulty understanding the speaker and have been forced to replay the audio from the speech. Also, the quality of the audio was soft and somewhat inaudible. I had my speakers turned-up as much as possible. This portion could be improved to provide a better presentation.

I spend a good portion of my day online doing virtual coaching, so I try to protect my right hand from repetitive tasks as much as possible. After 10 years of being a clinical orthodontist, I learned that repetitive movements are not optimal in terms of productivity; I had a hard time with the Inman course because there was a ton of repetitive clicking involved to access the content. I could only tolerate the course in small chunks as a result, but I was pleased that I was able to save my work and come back another day.

I would recommend writing notes when you take the class, because in order to become certified, you need to pass a 50 question exam at the end. They allow you to retake it if you don’t initially pass–which I didn’t the first time. The questions are very tricky: there are numerous multiple choice questions and you need to read each question very carefully. Don’t be discouraged if you fail; you will pass eventually.

Overall, I recommend the Inman Aligner® system. I do think that the online certification process needs some improvement, but the content is excellent.

StraightSmile Solutions is the future of orthodontic coaching. We are the first online portal to provide a doctor-to-doctor consulting service that will allow GP’s and their teams to access the knowledge and expertise of an industry expert, in order to enhance information sharing and efficiency in problem solving. We hope to revolutionize orthodontic coaching. As compared to other orthodontic coaching service providers, StraightSmile Solutions is a full-time business. We are independent and not run alongside a clinical practice. We commit our full energy to coaching, and you reap the benefits. We pride ourselves on providing lightning-fast service and responsiveness. StraightSmile Solutions is time and cost-efficient. Our services are available exclusively online. Of the over 128,000 general dentists in the US, most have little to no formal educational training in orthodontics. Those who do seek training often have to resort to expensive and time-consuming weekend services. You learn on the job through trial and error, but those errors can be expensive and unfortunate for both patients and doctors. We aim to fill the gap in the market for quality and efficient coaching to provide valuable solutions for doctors and their teams, and subsequent positive outcomes in the quality of patient care.
